SEISMIC HAZARD FUNCTION ANALYSIS IN MAJOR CITIES OF CENTRAL JAVA REGION

This research was conducted by analyzing seismic hazards in three major cities in central Jawa:Yogyakarta, Semarang, and Surakarta, which are vulnerable to seismic activity due to subduction of the Indian-Australian Plate and active faults on land. Using the Probability Seismic Hazard Analysis (P...

Using the Probability Seismic Hazard Analysis (PSHA) method, this study integrates seismicity rate data and shallow earthquake catalogs with a maximum depth of 60 km. Local and regional b-values were estimated to compare their influence on the Seismic Hazard Function (SHF) curve. The use of local b-value results in a steeper SHF curve than the regional b-value, with a lower Probability of Exceedence (PE) value at the same Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) value. In addition, the study also evaluated the a-value, finding the influence of the a-value on the SHF variability in each city and the seismic coupling between the three regions. In addition, the study also compared the SHF curve estimation with the GMPE of Fukushima & Tanaka (1992) and Kanno et al. (2006) in order to understand the differences in the application of both GMPEs in the study area. text
