However, the current standard still relies heavily on references from other standards, making it less independent and not fully adapted to Indonesia conditions. Therefore, this research aims to develop a concept for an independent performance testing method tailored specifically for manual transmission and axle lubricants in Indonesia. The development of the proposed testing method for the manual transmission and axle lubricants began with the classification of lubricants based on their physicochemical properties divided into two groups : group 1 and group 2. From these 2 groups, it revealed that the predominant standards that the group uses is ASTM D5704 titled “Standard Test Method for Evaluation of The Thermal and Oxidative Stability of Lubricating Oils used for Manual Transmissions and Final Drive Axles”. Based on this standard and testing method, it will be adopted referenced testing methods to suit with the testing capabilities in Indonesia. The proposed testing method in ASTM D5704 is called “L-60-I” the adaptation will include determining the selection criteria where the testing equipment must be available in Indonesia testing laboratories, dominant performance testing parameters, and assessing performance parameters that are part of the root cause issues. text
