ANALYSIS AND MITIGATION OF INTERFERENCE BETWEEN NGSO AND GSO SATELLITES AT KU BAND FREQUENCY CASE STUDY ON STARLINK AND TELKOM-3S SATELLITES

This study will examine the potential interference caused by the NGSO Satellite constellation to the GSO Satellite in the uplink and downlink directions. This study takes the case of the Telkom-3S satellite and the Starlink satellite constellation. By utilizing SGP4 as an orbit propagator, we propagate the satellite orbit using Two-Line Elements (TLE) orbit data available in the public domain, and simulate interference scenarios in the uplink and downlink directions. In the latitude range of 0-15° N, the higher the latitude of the GSO terminal, the less potential interference will be generated. We also examine that the Equivalent Power Flux Density (EPFD) will exceed the interference limit recommended by ITU article 22 without a separation angle. The mitigating to prevent interference between the NGSO satellite constellations and GSO satellite is to adjust the separation angle between the NGSO and GSO satellites, where for the uplink side the separation angle must not be less than 10° and for the downlink side the separation angle must not be less than 5°. text |

The rapid development of Non-Geostationary Satellite Orbit (NGSO) satellites has
raised concerns about the potential impact of co-frequency interference to existing
Geostationary Satellite Orbit (GSO) satellites. This study will examine the potential
interference caused by the NGSO Satellite constellation to the GSO Satellite in the
uplink and downlink directions. This study takes the case of the Telkom-3S satellite
and the Starlink satellite constellation. By utilizing SGP4 as an orbit propagator,
we propagate the satellite orbit using Two-Line Elements (TLE) orbit data
available in the public domain, and simulate interference scenarios in the uplink
and downlink directions. In the latitude range of 0-15° N, the higher the latitude of
the GSO terminal, the less potential interference will be generated. We also
examine that the Equivalent Power Flux Density (EPFD) will exceed the
interference limit recommended by ITU article 22 without a separation angle. The
mitigating to prevent interference between the NGSO satellite constellations and
GSO satellite is to adjust the separation angle between the NGSO and GSO
satellites, where for the uplink side the separation angle must not be less than 10°
and for the downlink side the separation angle must not be less than 5°. |
