The standard uses carrier sense multiple access with a collision avoidance medium access mechanism and supports single hop star as well as multi hop peer-to-peer topologies. In both topologies of wireless personal access networks, the first step to start communication is electing PAN coordinator in order to manage and maintain resources. This election or virtual base station is potential to cause network bottleneck in centralized PAN coordinator. <br /> <br /> <br /> In this work we propose ad hoc WSN (wireless sensor networks) over IEEE 802.15.4 as an alternative to solve network bottleneck problem. We study the performance of that proposed network by simulation using network simulator NS-2, including investigate hidden node effect on network. The common metrics such as throughput, delivery faction, and delay are used to evaluate the performance of the studied networks. <br /> <br /> <br /> The results of simulation show that ad hoc wireless sensor network is outperform to wireless sensor network over IEEE 802.15.4 in term of throughput and packet delivery fraction, but generated end to end delay in ad hoc WSN is greater than in WSN. Meanwhile, performance of ad hoc network over IEEE 802.15.11and IEEE 802.11 is relatively equal in proposed network under low traffic load. Furthermore, we found that applying RTS/CTS mechanism to avoid hidden node problem in IEEE 802.15.4 protocol have caused a great network overhead problem. <br /> <br /> text
