Description
Summary:CO2 emission is the most dominant emission to contribute in Greenhouse Gas (GHG). Biomass co-firing is one of the methods that chosen to reduce CO2 emission. The Powerplant that studied is a PLTU in Padang, West Sumatra (2 x 112 MW) which is located near the biomass (wood pellet) producer in Kampar, Riau. This PLTU is using Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) technology. Technological feasibility includes the application of biomass co-firing in the recent technology and its modification with biomass substitute of 0,5-2%-mass from the total coal amount. The biomass that will be studied is wood pellet at 66 USD/ton while coal price follows DMO pricing which is 70 USD/ton. The Emission calculation method refers to Pedoman Penyelenggaraan dan Pelaporan Inventarisasi Gas Rumah Kaca Bidang Energi Sub Bidang Ketenagalistrikan with IPCC Guideline 2006 as the baseline. The application of biomass co-firing can reduce CO2 emissions from 1,925 million tons/year to 1,903 million tons/year. Then reduction of SOx and NOx emissions from 136 and 311 mg/Nm3 to 133 and 307 mg/Nm3, while increasing PM10 from 11.5 mg/Nm3 to 15.4 mg/Nm3. However, SOx, NOx and PM10 emissions are still below the thresholds of 550, 550 and 100 mg/Nm3 respectively. The Net Present Value (NPV) will be positive when implementing biomass co-firing with a biomass ratio of 2%-mass resulting NPV of 7.781 USD using a discount rate of 6,75% over 10 years operating period. Internal Rate of Return (IRR) at biomass ratio 0,5–2%- mass respectively 2,15%, 4,44%, 6,37% and 9,13%. The maximum IRR value for PLTU facilities according to PLN guidelines is 11%. The Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCoE) from implementing biomass co-firing is 101 USD/MWh for a 2 x 112 MW PLTU. Meanwhile, currently the electricity tariff in Indonesia is IDR 1.500/kWh or 94 USD/MWh.
