In the context of slope stability, UCS directly influences the rockfill's ability to resist landslides or slope deformation, as this material lies at the critical contact plane of slope failure. Consequently, the rockfill zone is more susceptible to changes in mechanical properties due to variations in water table conditions. This study aims to understand how these changes affect dam slope stability. Slope stability and seepage analyses were conducted under three water table conditions (empty, half-full, and fully saturated) and using three types of rockfill materials with different compressive strengths: <25 MPa, 25–40 MPa, and >40 MPa. Shear strength and soil cohesion parameters for the slope stability analysis were derived from literature equations calibrated with laboratory test results. The analysis was performed using Geostudio software. The study results indicate that increasing UCS from 15 MPa to 40 MPa does not significantly impact stability because other factors, such as pore water pressure and internal friction angle, are more dominant. The safety factor analysis against piping also demonstrates that the dam meets the required standards at UCS levels of 15 MPa, 25 MPa, and 40 MPa across various water table conditions. This research provides valuable insights into the optimal selection of construction materials to ensure both safety and efficiency in dam projects. text |

Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) of rockfill is a crucial parameter in
geotechnical engineering to evaluate shear strength, particularly in construction
projects. In the context of slope stability, UCS directly influences the rockfill's
ability to resist landslides or slope deformation, as this material lies at the critical
contact plane of slope failure. Consequently, the rockfill zone is more susceptible
to changes in mechanical properties due to variations in water table conditions. This
study aims to understand how these changes affect dam slope stability.
Slope stability and seepage analyses were conducted under three water table
conditions (empty, half-full, and fully saturated) and using three types of rockfill
materials with different compressive strengths: <25 MPa, 25–40 MPa, and >40
MPa. Shear strength and soil cohesion parameters for the slope stability analysis
were derived from literature equations calibrated with laboratory test results. The
analysis was performed using Geostudio software.
The study results indicate that increasing UCS from 15 MPa to 40 MPa does not
significantly impact stability because other factors, such as pore water pressure and
internal friction angle, are more dominant. The safety factor analysis against piping
also demonstrates that the dam meets the required standards at UCS levels of 15
MPa, 25 MPa, and 40 MPa across various water table conditions. This research
provides valuable insights into the optimal selection of construction materials to
ensure both safety and efficiency in dam projects. |
