Summary: | This study aims to develop computer-based learning media using VBA Excel, designed as a visualization tool for probability concepts and mathematical modeling for high school students. The background of this research stems from students' difficulties in understanding basic probability concepts and the lack of effective teaching aids in mathematics education. This learning media offers interactive simulations encompassing various probability scenarios, such as dice rolls, coin tosses, combinations, permutations, and compound probability events, enabling students to connect probability concepts with practical applications through mathematical modeling.
The research method employed is development research using the 4-D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). In the Define phase, the study focuses on identifying needs and analyzing students' difficulties in understanding probability. The Design phase involves designing VBA Excel-based media accompanied by a user guide module that provides step-by-step simulation instructions and reinforces understanding through visualization. In the Develop phase, the designed media was reviewed by subject matter and media experts, followed by limited trials. This process led to revisions based on feedback to ensure the quality of the developed learning media.
The results of the study show that the VBA Excel-based learning media effectively improves students' understanding of probability concepts and mathematical modeling skills. The available interactive simulations allow students to explore probability applications through problem-solving-oriented activities.
The novelty of this research is in the integration of probability visualization with mathematical modeling using simple technology, which can be easily implemented in various schools, including those with limited technological facilities. This study contributes to the development of technology-based mathematics learning that supports the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka, particularly in creating interactive and contextual learning environments.
This research recommends further development by adding automatic evaluation features and more complex probability scenarios. Additionally, teacher training to optimize the use of this media and broader trials in various learning environments are suggested to strengthen its effectiveness. With its innovative approach, this media is expected to make a significant contribution to computer-based mathematics learning in the future. |
