Rapid urbanization has triggered substantial urban expansion, leading to the conversion of agricultural land into built-up areas. This phenomenon is driven by the growing demand for land to accommodate infrastructure development, housing, and other economic activities. As one of the major contributors to rice production in West Java, Subang Regency faces the critical challenge of balancing development needs with the sustainability of its agricultural sector. The intensifying urbanization, enhanced accessibility through the Pantura highway and the Cipali toll road, as well as the development of the Patimban Port, have further accelerated the transformation of agricultural land into built-up areas. This study aims to identify the dynamics of urban development and its implications for the agricultural land carrying capacity in Subang Regency. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze data related to population, economy, agriculture, land use, and urban development policies. The analysis begins with calculating the growth rates of population, urban population, and agricultural households, followed by an examination of economic growth rates and Klassen typology. It also includes an analysis of the growth rates of harvested area and rice production, changes in agricultural land area, and land use changes. Furthermore, an assessment of agricultural land availability and demand is conducted to evaluate the carrying capacity of agricultural land. Regression and overlay analyses are employed to explore the relationships between variables, while spatial-temporal mapping and the formulation of strategies for controlling land conversion are central components of the qualitative method. The results reveal significant urban population growth in Subang Regency, improved accessibility through strategic infrastructure such as Patimban Port, and a decline in the agricultural sector. These factors have directly contributed to the conversion of agricultural land for residential and industrial purposes, which, in turn, poses a potential threat to food security. Based on agricultural landiv carrying capacity analysis, it was found that Subang Regency has generally achieved rice self-sufficiency and is capable of providing a decent standard of living for its population, although certain districts still face challenges in meeting adequate living standards. Regression analysis highlights the negative impact of urban population growth and expanded built-up areas on agricultural land carrying capacity. This study offers a deeper understanding of land-use conversion by integrating social, economic, and physical analyses. The novelty of this research lies in its spatial-temporal analysis approach, which leverages longterm historical data to identify trends in urban dynamics at the district level, explore variables affecting agricultural land carrying capacity, and develop more adaptive, policy-based strategies for controlling land-use conversion. text |

description |
Subang Regency, as part of the Rebana Region in West Java Province, faces
significant challenges stemming from urban development dynamics. Rapid
urbanization has triggered substantial urban expansion, leading to the conversion
of agricultural land into built-up areas. This phenomenon is driven by the
growing demand for land to accommodate infrastructure development, housing,
and other economic activities. As one of the major contributors to rice production
in West Java, Subang Regency faces the critical challenge of balancing
development needs with the sustainability of its agricultural sector. The
intensifying urbanization, enhanced accessibility through the Pantura highway
and the Cipali toll road, as well as the development of the Patimban Port, have
further accelerated the transformation of agricultural land into built-up areas.
This study aims to identify the dynamics of urban development and its
implications for the agricultural land carrying capacity in Subang Regency.
The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and
qualitative methods to analyze data related to population, economy, agriculture,
land use, and urban development policies. The analysis begins with calculating
the growth rates of population, urban population, and agricultural households,
followed by an examination of economic growth rates and Klassen typology. It
also includes an analysis of the growth rates of harvested area and rice
production, changes in agricultural land area, and land use changes.
Furthermore, an assessment of agricultural land availability and demand is
conducted to evaluate the carrying capacity of agricultural land. Regression and
overlay analyses are employed to explore the relationships between variables,
while spatial-temporal mapping and the formulation of strategies for controlling
land conversion are central components of the qualitative method.
The results reveal significant urban population growth in Subang Regency,
improved accessibility through strategic infrastructure such as Patimban Port,
and a decline in the agricultural sector. These factors have directly contributed to
the conversion of agricultural land for residential and industrial purposes, which,
in turn, poses a potential threat to food security. Based on agricultural landiv
carrying capacity analysis, it was found that Subang Regency has generally
achieved rice self-sufficiency and is capable of providing a decent standard of
living for its population, although certain districts still face challenges in meeting
adequate living standards. Regression analysis highlights the negative impact of
urban population growth and expanded built-up areas on agricultural land
carrying capacity. This study offers a deeper understanding of land-use
conversion by integrating social, economic, and physical analyses. The novelty of
this research lies in its spatial-temporal analysis approach, which leverages longterm historical data to identify trends in urban dynamics at the district level,
explore variables affecting agricultural land carrying capacity, and develop more
adaptive, policy-based strategies for controlling land-use conversion. |
