Summary: | Gowa Regency has tourism potential that is able to compete in South Sulawesi. This
is emphasized through the vision of Gowa Regency to become one of the three main
contributors in strengthening the competitiveness of South Sulawesi tourism at the
national and international levels. Measuring tourism competitiveness requires a
comprehensive review, considering that tourism is a system consisting of various
interrelated elements. This study aims to identify tourism characteristics and
measure the tourism competitiveness index in Gowa Regency. The methods used
include qualitative, quantitative, and spatial descriptive analysis. Qualitative
descriptive analysis is used to explain the characteristics of tourism system
elements. Spatial analysis, in the form of overlay analysis, is used to describe the
spatial distribution of tourism competitiveness. While quantitative descriptive
analysis is applied to measure tourism competitiveness using the Competitiveness
Monitor method. Data collection was carried out through field observations and
literature reviews. The results of the analysis show that the characteristics of Gowa
Regency tourism are formed from its history as a great kingdom and the unique
natural beauty of the mountains in South Sulawesi, which are able to attract
tourists. This potential is strengthened by external subsystems, such as supportive
natural conditions, demographic bonuses, technological advances, socio-cultural
wealth, economic stability, and tourism policies that encourage the development of
this sector. The results of the measurement of tourism competitiveness in Gowa
Regency show that Malino Highland excels in five indicators, namely Human
Tourism Indicator (HTI), Price Competitiveness Indicator (PCI), Infrastructure
Development Indicator (IDI), Human Resources Indicator (HRI), and Social
Development Indicator (SDI). Meanwhile, Malino Pine Forest excels in three
indicators, namely Environment Indicator (EI), Technology Advancement Indicator
(TAI), and Openness Indicator (OI). |
