EVALUASI DAN INTERVENSI ERGONOMI PADA PEKERJAAN PEMANENAN KELAPA SAWIT AFDELING VADA PT PERKEBUNAN NUSANTARA VIII

Oil palm harvesting is associated with a high risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) due to non-ergonomic postures, repetitive movements, and heavy workloads. This study aimed to identify ergonomic risk factors contributing to MSDs among oil palm harvesters at PT Perkebunan Nusantara VIII, Afde...

This study aimed to identify ergonomic risk factors contributing to MSDs among oil palm harvesters at PT Perkebunan Nusantara VIII, Afdeling Vada, and to recommend effective interventions to reduce the risk.. Research methods included a survey on MSD complaints, posture analysis using the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA), and biomechanical modeling using 3DSSPP software. Results showed that the right side of the body, especially the shoulder, hand, and elbow, experienced the most frequent MSD complaints. Further analysis revealed that the task of cutting fronds and fresh fruit bunches using an egrek carried the highest risk, with the highest REBA score. Biomechanical modeling using 3DSSPP indicated that this task resulted in high loads on the lumbar spine (L5/S1), exceeding safe limits. Additionally, the upper limbs experienced excessive loads.. Besides biomechanical factors, individual factors such as age, work duration, smoking habits, sleep duration, and fatigue also contributed to the risk of MSDs. Based on the findings, several ergonomic interventions are recommended, including improvements in tool design and administrative controls such as training and awareness programs, to reduce the risk of MSDs among oil palm harvesters. text
