The dry extract of the bark of Kayu Kasai (Tristania sumatrana Miq ., Myrtaceae) were tested for antifertility activity in female albino rats of the wistar strain. The extract dissolved in water, when administere d per oral at doses of 300 mg, 600 mg and 1200 mg per kg body weight for 7 days before and 10 days after pregnancy, caused significant inhibition of implantation (P0,01). Only 1200 mg per kg body weight dose showed 60% antifertility activity, whereas at doses of 300 mg and 60 0 mg per kg body weight the antifertility activity were 0% and 20% respectively. No abnormalities were observed on the new born rats until the age of one month. Daily administration during more than two weeks did not affect the health of the adult rats suggesting that the doses were not toxic. <br />
