Summary:One of fashion’s main components is human’s ability to express themselves through the garments they wear. This allows clothes to define certain characteristics based on social identitiy it brings. This power to define social identity can be concretely seen in the differences between men’s and women’s fashion. After The French Revolution, menswear became more practical, leaving behind ornaments, colors, and sihlouettes previously worn. Flugel, dan the theory of the separation of men and women’s sewing guild by Anne Hollander. Aside from the differences in current theories, menswear no longer bears the same aesthetic function as womenswear.
