Description
Summary:Free radicals are molecules in unpaired electrons in the outer orbit that can damage biomolecules like protein, DNA, and lipid. The damage caused led to various diseases and disorders such as cancer and Alzheimer's disease. While natural antioxidant mechanisms exist, they tend to get overwhelmed overtime and so dietary antioxidant is important. This study aims to investigate the antioxidant activity of the leaf and flower of water lily Nymphaea nouchali (Burm. f.). The extraction for leaf and flower was done by using reflux method with methanol solvent. The antioxidant activity was done with DPPH radical scavenging method. The Ascorbic Acid Equivalent (mg) per gram of sample for leaf and flower of N. nouchali are 67.809 ± 0.098 and 68.265 ± 0.041 AAE mg/g, respectively.
