INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/87900 The Ungaran Geothermal Field in Central Java has great potential to be developed as a renewable energy source. Previous research has conducted a comprehensive geoscience analysis in determining the location of production wells. However, there is still room for improvement, especially in considering accessibility and environmental suitability as important factors in sustainable exploration and development. This aspect is a key factor to ensure a safe, efficient and sustainable exploration drilling site. This research adopts Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to analyze and integrate geology, geochemistry, geophysics, environmental, and accessibility data. The boolean and index overlay methods were used to produce geothermal potential maps that reflected zones with high favorability levels (scores 7–9) as well as environmental suitability and accessibility areas. The results of the study identified two strategic locations for the construction of exploration well pads. Purpose Exploration Well A (41,500 m²) is located in Sendang Pengilon, in a tea plantation area with adequate logistical access. This location is recommended to use vertical drilling techniques to target the zone with the highest favorability (9), allowing for efficient and focused exploration. Purpose Exploration Well B (7,560 m²) is located east of Gedongsongo, in an open agricultural area with good access. This location requires the application of directional drilling techniques to reach the zone with the highest favorability (9) that is in the vicinity. The GIS approach in this study can comprehensively integrate various spatial data and produce quantitative, objective, and directed recommendations for the construction of exploration wells. Both identified sites meet geoscience, environmental, and accessibility criteria, thus providing a solid basis for planning drilling exploration and geothermal development at the Ungaran Geothermal Field. text |

description |
The Ungaran Geothermal Field in Central Java has great potential to be developed
as a renewable energy source. Previous research has conducted a comprehensive
geoscience analysis in determining the location of production wells. However, there
is still room for improvement, especially in considering accessibility and
environmental suitability as important factors in sustainable exploration and
development. This aspect is a key factor to ensure a safe, efficient and sustainable
exploration drilling site. This research adopts Geographic Information System
(GIS) technology to analyze and integrate geology, geochemistry, geophysics,
environmental, and accessibility data. The boolean and index overlay methods
were used to produce geothermal potential maps that reflected zones with high
favorability levels (scores 7–9) as well as environmental suitability and
accessibility areas.
The results of the study identified two strategic locations for the construction of
exploration well pads. Purpose Exploration Well A (41,500 m²) is located in
Sendang Pengilon, in a tea plantation area with adequate logistical access. This
location is recommended to use vertical drilling techniques to target the zone with
the highest favorability (9), allowing for efficient and focused exploration. Purpose
Exploration Well B (7,560 m²) is located east of Gedongsongo, in an open
agricultural area with good access. This location requires the application of
directional drilling techniques to reach the zone with the highest favorability (9)
that is in the vicinity. The GIS approach in this study can comprehensively integrate
various spatial data and produce quantitative, objective, and directed
recommendations for the construction of exploration wells. Both identified sites
meet geoscience, environmental, and accessibility criteria, thus providing a solid
basis for planning drilling exploration and geothermal development at the Ungaran
Geothermal Field. |
