A promising solution to this problem is by the usage of biodegradable polymers. The aim of this research is to modify polystyrene (PS) by formation of its copolymers with poly- δ-valerolakton (PVL) to produce degradable copolymers. The copolymers are characterized by functional group analysis (FTIR), thermal analysis (TG/DTA), mechanical properties (Tensile tester), and cristallinity degree analysis (XRD). Based on these analysis show that the increasing PVL composition in copolymers, the crystallinity degree increases, but the mechanical property decreases. The changes of the thermal characteristics of copolymers depend on comonomer compositions. In this research has been synthesized block copolymers (S-VL), but it should be conducted further research to study the biodegradability of synthesized copolymers. text
