Description
Summary:Heat is one of potential hazard in working environment that needs special attention. Excess heat in body due to metabolic process or heat exposure from working environment can lead to health problem (heat strain) start from light problem such as heat rash, heat syncope, heat cramps, heat exhaustion up to serious injury, Heat stroke. This research is hazard identification that has purposes to calculate heat stress index through measurement of external environment factors that influence heat stress that are humidity, wind speed, dry temperature, wet temperature and radiation temperature; Evaluated workers health due to heat exposure through measurement of systole blood pressure, diastole blood pressure, pulse and worker body temperature. The research was done in strategic industry PT. X at melting and casting unit COR I and II and also at TEMPA unit as the control. Based on calculation result and heat stress index analysis with ISSB method, heat stress index score at melting unit COR I is 31,51 degrees C ±1,75, at casting unit 28,29 degrees C ±1,36, at melting & casting Ferro COR II are 33,87 degrees C ±6,36 and 28,22 degrees C ±1,66, at melting & casting Non-Ferro are 30,3 degrees C ±2,41 and 30,32 degrees C ±3,14. TEMPA unit used as contro and known that heat stress index score it 25,11 degrees C ±0,92. According to Regulation Ministry of Labor force KEP-MEN/51/1999 score of heat stress index on melting unit COR I, melting Ferro, melting and casting unit Non-Ferro COR II are over allowable limit that is 30 degrees C. Based on heat index calculation, score obtained between 80oF-90oF, and base on Belding Hatch Index obtained Heat Stress Index score on melting and casting unit COR I are 140 and 40, for ferro melting and casting unit COR II are 150 and 40 and for non ferro melting and casting unit COR II is 90. Health assessment conducted to 48 workers consist of 24 people are working in COR I and II and the rest are working in TEMPA unit as controls. Based on calculation result of Hazard Index score, indicated that melting and casting unit COR I and II can caused health risk to the workers who are working on particular location (Hazard Index>1). Workers health problem risk occurrences obtained from RR score, indicated that workers who exposed by heat would have risk of descending systolic blood pressure by 1,55 times, descending diastole blood pressure by 1,57 times, and increased body temperature by 9,25 times compared to workers who were not exposed by extremely heat temperature. The contribution of heat expose to caused health problem to the workers are decrease systolic blood pressure by 35%, decrease diastole pressure by 36% and increase body temperature by 89,2%.
