Summary:ABSTRACT: <br /> <br /> <br /> In the business ethics, it is very important for the leader and his employees have been running together to obtain as well as to maintain credibility. The reason is, in the lightness of business competition, the company need to be accepted and trusted by stakeholder in order to be win and survive. As expected, ethical manager may influence and lead his subordinates to have the way of ethical. As a matter of the fact, there are many kinds of things could make into it, but manager still have the most important role indeed. In paternalistic culture, it is more easy for managers to become role model for their subordinates, because they are looking for figure that could be followed. Indonesian have been familiar with role model terminology. Almost all people deem that Indonesian looking for role model. And leaders are become role model for their subordinates. <br /> <br /> <br /> To be convinced about the important of role model (i.e, ethical manager) to influence subordinates ethical behavior, it has been done to research 233 respondent in all sort of 8 companies sector. This research has been taken to get how manager ethical behavior influences subordinates ethical behavior. It is also to know how rewards and punishments system role in influence of manager ethical behavior against subordinates ethical behavior. <br /> <br /> <br /> The result of research indicate that in general, manager ethical behavior influences subordinates ethical behavior. In state owned company, manager ethical behavior doesnt influence subordinates ethical behavior Whereas, in private sector company, manager ethical behavior influences subordinates ethical behavior. Second, subordinates could follow their managers ethical behavior examples if those examples are gave as a whole that subordinates could understand the important of ethics and the values. Rewards and punishments system could eliminate the influence of manager ethical behavior. Perhaps, this system is not clear enough that subordinates become skeptical againts the influence of ethical behavior which given by their manager.
