Summary:Reverse Engineering (RE) is a method that duplicates a product which existed before without infringe the patent rules. This RE of a hand tractor gearbox activity was done as a request from PT X, who is accused of imitating the product of another company. The steps in activity of RE are searching the product’s engineering information, searching knowledge and know-how of the product, engineering analyzing and modeling, manufacturing the prototype, testing and doing evaluation, and finally repairing and developing the product. The focus of this final project is limited from searching the product’s engineering information to engineering analyzing. This report describes the steps in activity of RE in the scheme of gearbox design for the 6 kW hand tractor. First, seeking of engineering information is conducted by literature study from various books, standards, and corresponding internet sites. Then, knowledge and know-how information of the product are acquired by seeking data from PT X and also field testing of the product. The next step is gearbox designing and modeling using Pro/Engineer Wildfire 3. The last step is engineering analysis which done in strength and tolerance aspect, beside analysis at manufacture aspect and examination in a short. The result is in the form of technical drawing of the gearbox’s components. From the result of the research, analysis and design, it can be concluded that components of gearbox from the design result is good and safe enough to be used. Then, the components required to be manufactured carefully so can work properly. <br /> <br /> <br /> The writer is expecting this article can contribute to give an idea, comparison materials or knowledge for other party needing materials concerning activity of Reverse Engineering, especially in scheme of hand tractor gearbox.
