The effects of the depth to the first layer of the reinforcement, vertical spacing of the reinforcement layers, the width size of the reinforcement sheet and number of the reinforcement on the bearing capacity were investigated. All the loading tests that had already been undertaken were failed with punching shear mode, either the unreinforced or reinforced sand. The experimental results indicated that the placement of the top layer of the reinforcement sheet which gave the highest bearing capacity is in the range of 0.25B to 0.5B below the footing base, where B is the width of the footing. The bearing capacity appeared high if the vertical spacing of multilayer geometry of the reinforcement is in the range of 0.25B to 0.5B. The bearing capacity of the reinforced sand was also found to increase with the the reinforcement width and number of the reinforcement, when the reinforcement was placed within the effective zone. The effective width and the number of the reinforcement which gave the highest bearing capacity were 4.5B and 3, respectively. The differences among the researchers are likely due to the materials used and the applied model tests. <br /> text
