Summary: | Design, production, installation and field test of a solar water heater have been done. This water heater is designed with 300 litre capacity and 2.8 m2 total area of solar collector. Water flow inside the system occured naturally (thermosyphon). This water heater is installed on a residence in Bandung area and tested for directly two months. Field test is done to know the history of water temperature inside the tank while the system is operating. Besides that, the purpose of the test is to know the daily mean efficiency of this solar water heater. Theoretical calculation also has been made and the results are compared with test results.<p>Test results show that the hot water inside the tank can surpasses 50 oC in sunny days and reaches 40 oC in cloudy days. Daily mean efficiency of the system is 30.64%. Comparation of theoretical calculation and test results are differ, but overall, this differences is not significant. The prediction of temperature history in very sunny days (maximum intensity of radiation is 1000 W/m2) show that the system can reach temperature of 55 oC at 14:36 in the first day. Overall, the performance of this solar water heater is fairly good. |
