Description
Summary:ABSTRACT:

A new flavonoid with the chalcone skeleton, 2,4,2 ;4-tetrahydroxy-3-(3 -methyl-E-but-1 -enyl)chalcone, has been isolated from the shoot culture of A. integer which was established on MS + 1 ppm benzyladenine medium in addition with four phenolic compounds. While from the root barks of intact plant has been isolated six phenolic compounds, they are one stilbene, trans-4-isopentenyl-3, 5, 2, 4 -tetrahydroxystilben three prenylated flavones, cudraflavone C, artocarpin, artonin Y, one flavanone, artocarpanone, and one flavan-3-ol, cyanomaclurin. The structure of these compounds were elucidated based on spectroscopic data UK IR, NMR, and by direct comparison with standard compounds. The chalcone isolated from shoot culture is a precursor for flavonoid derivatives isolated from the intact plant. Most of those compounds, trans-4-isopentenyl-3, 5, 2 ,4-tetrahydroxystilbene, cudraflavone C, and artocarpin, exhibited highly cytotoxic activity against murine leukemia P388 with IC501, 6; 1, 75; and 1,9 ,ug/mL respectively.
