The purpose of this research is to assess the effect of fig fruit water extract on fasting blood glucose (FBG) rate of white mouse male rats (Rattus norvegicus L.) induceed with alloxan monohydrate. The aim of this research is to determine fig fruit water extract effectiveness compared to metphormine, a commercial diabetic drug. Twenty eight test animals with normal FBG rate were used, which were divided to seven groups designated as K.1, K.2, K.3, K.4, K.5, K.6 and K.7. Groups K.1 were used as a control, and not induceed with alloxan monohydrate, while the others, groups K.2 to K.7 were fed used alloxan monohydrate to cause diabetes. Then K.2 was applied as positive control, K.3 was given by metphormine 50 mg/kgBB per oral utilized as a comparator group, whereas K.4, K.5, K.6 and K.7 were applied as test groups which were given a fig fruit water extract with 25, 50, 100 and 200 mg/kgBB dose per oral everyday respectively. The post induction FBG rates were investigated at T0, T7, T14 and T21 utilizing electrical glucotester and Somogyi-Nelson method. The result that the average of post induction FBG rate decreased between T0 and T14 for K.1 to K.7, which were 2.39; -67.13; 524.77; 560.49; 411.47; 487.22; and 406.68 mg/dL respectively. Based on these data, it could be concluded that the fig fruit water can reduce the FBG rate on test animals within 14 days of treatment. The best hypoglycemic effect was obtained on 25 mg/kgBB fig fruit water extract dose per oral everyday, with FBG rate decrease percentage of 85.24%. text |
