Description
Summary:Lots of solutions have been offered by scientists all across the world to solve dependence on unrenewable energy. One of those solutions is to use renewable energy such as biomass. Although the availability of biomass is abundent, but generally the energy content in biomass is smaller than that in fosil fuel.Rice husk and corn cob are example of biomass. Based on literature, the energy content of biomass such as rice husk is about 14.400kJ/kg and corn cob 15.400kJ/kg [1]. The low energy content in biomass has been a driving force to use the most effective technique to obtain as much energy as posibble from it. One of the techniques is by implementing gasification method. On this research, a gasification reactor is designed and built using corn cob as fuel, and then performance characteristic of corn cob as fuel for gasification reactor is evaluated through analytical study and experiment. The results from this research are nett and maximum power of the designed gasification reactor, and also efficiency of gasification process that happened in reactor. The result of experiment and performance analysis of gasification reactor using corn cob as fuel show that maximum power is 20,68 kW and efficiency of gasification process that happened in reactor is 79,6%. However, because the design of the burner is not efficient, the net power that can be used is only 6,72 kW.
