Abstract :

Extract of leaves of Physalis minima Linn, was prepared using aethanol 95% by soxhletation technique and in vestigated for its anti implantation effect.

The experiment was carried out on control and treat ed group of female albino rats of the Wistar strain.

Oral administration of the extract prior to pregnancy for seven days in doses of 3,5 and 7,0 gram/kg body weight exhibited 74,04 and 90,40% respectively, inhibition of implantation as compared to the control group.

It was found that the extent of reduction of implantation in the case of 7,0 gram/kg body weight dose was better in comparison to 3,5 gram/kg body weight. It was also found that the new born litter of the treated groups did not exhibit any gross abnormalities.

The results indicate that the significant (P 0,05) anti implantation activity of the extract could be attributed to the steroid like compounds, extract-able with aethanol 95%. |
