Description
Summary:The interelationship between the differents planting distances and harvesting time intervals of elephant grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schumach.) and the yield in terms of the dry biomass, the water absorftion rate into the soil, and the dry biomass of its weeds, the differents planting distances and the had been studied at the pasture belonging to the Biofarma Experimental station in Cisarua, Bandung, West Java. Generally speaking, the study showed that less planting distances has resulted in more dry biomass production both pe rsquare meter and percluster. In relation with the water infiltration rate into the soil, the planting distances of elephant grass the more rapid the absorption rate of water is. Whereas dry biomass of its weeds become less when the planting distances of elephant grass become grass small. Nefertheless the differences in planting distances and harvesting time intervals did not affect the weed community. This also happens when the harvesting time in tervals become less.
