Summary: | A study on litter production and decomposition rates has been carried out in reforested mangrove forests of different age classes in the area of Mayangan, Pamanukan, West Java. The different stand studied were the R.hi.zophora mucronata Lamk. and Avicennia marina (Frost) Veirh. stands of age class 5 and 6-10 years. In each stand, leaf litter composed the greatest part of litterfall, ranging between 13,56-30,21 gr/0,5 m2/15 days, while twig litter ranged between 0,54-2,30 gr/0,5 m2/15 days. Highest litter production was found in the Rhizophora mucronata stand of 6-10 year class in the 75-100 metres from shoreline zone, in which litterfall measured 1560,48/ gr/m2/yr, while the Avicennia marina stand of years in the lowest litterfall, measuring 769,92 gr/m2/yr. Calculate litter decomposition rates have shown that litter from Rhizophora mucronata stands less than 5 years old decomposes most rapidly, at a rate of 83,17 %/75 days, while litter from Avicennia marina stands age 6-10 years, decomposes slowest, at a rate of 72, |
