Description
Summary:ABSTRACT:

This thesis discuss a study of cropping intensity and cropping pattern in Sapon Irrigation Area, Kulon Progo District, Yogyakarta Province. Sapon irrigation area of 2.250 ha, locate at Progo river basin is developed in 1984 through free intake structure. After 10 years operated, the degradation of bed river have been occurred due to over mining of sand, such that the flow entering to intake decrease. Weir irrigation structures is constructed in 2004 in order to fulfill about 2.250 ha with design flow about 4,80 m3/second. In the beginning, the cropping schedule and pattern. are determined three in one year with cropping pattern are Paddy-Paddy-Palawija. Cropping schedule is design in the first week of August, some value of 219,68% cropping intensity is obtained.

The impact from weir structures are tend to some changes in the value of water availability potential, dependable flow and water requirement. From the above evaluation show that both irrigation area and cropping intensity are increases. Water availability potential is estimated by applying Proportional Method, while the dependable flow (Q80) is determined by using statistical approach. Irrigation water requirement about 2,00-2,17 1/sec/ha was estimated using water balance method which depend on several factors, namely: Land Preparation, Water layer replacement, percolation losses, consumptive use, effective rainfall and irrigation efficiency.

Result from analysis show that the cropping pattern Paddy-Paddy-Palawija and cropping schedule starting in the first of month October for cropping intensity three in one year, there have the increasing of cropping intensity to the value about 298,16%. The intake design discharge and dependable flow of Sapon irrigation area appear to be 4,89 m3/second and 6,75 m3/second respectively.
