Description
Summary:Bathing is one of every human's basic necessities. But bathing is done mostly in cold air temperature, so bathing with warm air seems more comfortable than cold water. Many hot water supplying methods for domestic houses are already developed. From water boiling with stoves powered by fuel, electric water heaters, to solar powered water heaters. But coinciding with the times, the energy usage is still has an opportunity to be economized. The design of a central mechanical hot water supplying system is deemed to save energy needed to supply hot water demands in a housing area. Batununggal Indah Bandung housing area is used as a reference design location. One form of energy saving done is by using the exhaust heat from a condenser of a refrigeration chiller machine as the water's initial heater until 35oC. Then the water will undergo another stage of heating system, such boiler and heat exchanger until it reached the necessary temperature, 65oC. System is hoping to run full day, so every time needed, hot water is available. Because of that, closed circulation system is used. Another form of saving is by using pressure tanks to complement the pumps operation, so that the pumps don't have to operate for a full day. Design results shows that the water demand of 504.260 liters with temperature of 65oC can be accommodated by using two boilers and four heat exchangers. Storage tank will accommodate the temporary water storage needed. Then, water distribution system is done by pump, pressure tank and pipeline, which are separated for every stage of the housing area.
