THE PROSPECT AND THE ROLE OF SEA FISH PREPARATION IN ECONOMIC DECELOPMENT IN BLANAKAN DISTRICT - SUBANG REGENCY

Abstract: <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Local economic development concept assumed that regional development is determined by the growth and the existence of local entrepreneurs. For rural area, the medium and small scale industry is considered to hold an important role local economic development related to its suitability with rural characteristics. Yet, despite of holding roles in local ekonomic development, to be sustained and to be developed, small and medium entrepreneurs always encounter problems. Therefore, it is required to study more deeply about how an industry can be prolonged and how far this industry can hold an important role in local economic development. This study was conducted in Blanakan District Subang Regency, where exists an industrial area of sea fish preparation that has been existed for more than 30 years. In 2005, 20% of the total number of poor people in Subang Regency is in Blanakan District. The objective of this thesis is to study the sustainability prospect and the role of sea fish preparation industry in supporting the local economic development of Blanakan District Subang Regency. The prospect of this industry is seen from the ability to fulfill market demand related to internal and external condition of the industry. While the role of this industry in local economic development is seen from the use of local labor, the use of local raw material, labors income level and its contribution for community development. This research uses qualitative approach which is used to identify the prospect and the role of sea fish preparation industry in local economic development of Blanakan District. The analysis method of this research is the descriptive analysis. This method is used to analys the prospect and role of sea fish preparaton industry in local economic development Blanakan District. The analyses were done to describe and explain facts, information and the conditins of research objects through certain descriptions and to developed further through sistematical statements. The result of this study shows that the sea fish preparation industry has good prospect to be developed and to be sustained in Blanakan District. In the local economic development of Blanakan District, sea fish preparation industry has only roles in the use of local labor and the use of local raw material. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The conclusion of this research is the prospect of sea fish preparation industry has to be used to increase the role of sea fish preparation industry in local economic development of Blanakan District. Some efforts that can be done to support the sustainability and the role of sea fish preparation industry are: (1) productivity improvement through capital enhancement, market, entrepreneurship enhancement, government roles, technology/products diversification improvement, labor income improvement, raw material availability improvement, business association formation, and (2) improvement of sea fish preparation industrys role by improving the performance of sea fish preparation industry through developing businessmen to use more local labor and improving businessmens and labors incomes and creating new businessmen. <br />
