Description
Summary:The limitation in the laboratory equipments in Indonesia's high schools is one of the handicap in chemistry learning especially in the laboratory-based learning. Experiment is an important part of science learning, when the meaningful learning is expected. One of the solutions to build a meaningful learning in this situation is to give the students some activities that call virtual experiment. The objective of this research and development is to build a virtual chemistry experiment that would be use as virtual experiment in the atomic structure concept. The multimedia application then was packaged in a multimedia CD. Atomic structure has been chosen because there is no laboratory-based learning in this topic. Multimedia Builder, a multimedia authoring software from www.mediachance.com, eXe Learning, Hot Potatoes, and other software included in Microsoft windows, for examples Ms. word, WordPad, or Notepad, were used to build this application. An interactive multimedia CD that cover atomic structure theory have been built, which included Thomson's experiment, Millikan's experiment, Rutherford's experiment, and Frank-Hertz's experiment. To measure the student's capabilities, there is a set of interactive objectives test in the CD. The CD has been limited tested to use in virtual experiments by some chemistry teachers. The results show that the Thomson's experiment interface needs to be develope, and the analysis-interface was reduced the students activities in virtual experiment itself. The interactive test would be an innovation if covers more ability in Bloom's taxonomy. As the result, the CD can be used as a virtual chemistry laboratory.
