Topography in this region is hilly and valley area, located near to Sanga-sanga River, the tributary of Mahakam River. In this region is also found many oil and gas wells followed by oil and gas pipes (surface and sub-surfaces pipes), hence blasting method for excavation activities are prohibited. Block cut open pit mining is the method used in this area. Mining concession encompassing are 180 ha, devided into 6 blocks. Mineable coal reserves is 1647750 ton with a stripping ratio of 7.29. Coal production period is estimated 15 months. Excavator backhoe Komatsu PC 3000 and PC 1250 combined with Dump Truck Caterpillar 777D are used for loading and hauling overburden. While excavator backhoe Caterpillar 385 B and 345 B combined with Dump Truck Hino FM260JD are used for coal production. Excavation is also supported by dozer CAT D10T and Komatsu D375 for ripping process. Procedures and sequences of mine design followed by production schedules must be concerned at the beginning of mining activity since mine pushback depends on them, and at the same time, production target must be reached according to coal production period. Considering coal seams distribution, topography and dumping area location, the mining excavation is started from northern to southern of mining blocks. text
