Description
Summary:Abstract:

An examination on pesticide residues in human mother milk obtained from Pangandaran, West Java has been carried out. The samples were extracted with acetonitrile. This extract was then purifield by re-extraction with n-hexane and by chromatography through a florisil column.Subsequent analysis was done by electron capture-gas chromatography.

The gas chromatographic analysis showed the presence of pp DDT [1,1-bis-(p-chlorophenyl)-2,2,2-trichloroethane] and its metabolite pp DDE [2,2-bis-(p-chlorophenyl)-1,1 - dichloroethylenel in human mother milk.

The average amounts of 0.173 ppm pp DOT and 0.320 ppm pp DOE were found in 21 samples of human mother milk deter-mined.

The identification of pp DDT and pp DOE was confirmed by thin layer chromatography, using aluminium oxide G as the adsorbent, n-heptane as the solvent and silver nitrate solution as the chromogenic reagent followed by ultra violet irradiation.
