The purpose of the research is to evaluate the elegbility of Cucurbita moschata as raw material for bioethanol and biodiesel. The elegbility evaluation includes examination of starch and sugar content in pumpkin fruit, examination of oil and protein content in pumpkin seed, examination of iodine value of pumpkin seed oil, and the synthesis of bioethanol from pumpkin fruit.

Water content in fruit and seed are 83-93%-weight and 5%-weight. Starch content in pumpkin fruit is 83-85%-weight (dry base) while sugar content is 3.25%-weight (dry base). Oil content in pumpkin seed is 33-34.5%-weight (dry base) while protein content is 42.5%- weight (dry base). Iodine value of pumpkin seed oil is 95.6. The examination of pumpkin fruit's and seed's characteristic show that pumpkin fruit is potencial to be used as raw material for bioethanol while pumpkin seed is potencial to be used as raw material for biodiesel. |
