Description
Summary:Abstract:

The performance of pavement surface to resist the traffic loading, the environmental condition and the high temperatur, depend primarily on the asphalt mixture. I.e. asphalt and aggregate. The petroleum asphalt (Pen 6/7) used actually, does not have a high resistance on heavy load or high pavement temperature. The use of ABS55 Multigrade Asphalt in Ashaltic Concrete (AC) mixture is expected to improve the weakness of conventional asphalt and to increase its performance.

Laboratory research are conducted to measure the rheology of Multigrade ABS55 asphalt and compare it with Asphalt Pen 6/7 and also the characteristics of Asphaltic Concrete Wearing Course (AC WC) which made from the two kinds of bitumen. The gradation used in this research are the gradation above the Fuller curve (Gradation A) and the gradation crossing the Fuller curve (Gradation B). The Marshall Immersion test and Modulus Resilien test are conducted in the Optimum Bitumen Content. (KAO). Test result of the asphalt rheology that conducted before and after TFOT showed that Multigrade ABS55 Asphalt has sensitivity to temperature change at temperature range of 25C45 C. SayboltFurol Viscosity test showed that Multigrade ABS55 has higher viscosity compared to Pen 6/7 Asphalt. The KAO value based on Marshall method for the MA mixture (Multigrade ABS55 and Gradation A) and the PA mixture (Pen 6/7 and gradation A) are 5,81% and 5,77%. Respectively the KAO value based on Marshall method for the MB mixture (Multigrade ABS55 and Gradation B) is 6,28%. Based on the laboratory testing result, the use of Multigrade ABS55 asphalt give better performance than the use of asphalt Pen 6/7. It is shown by the higher IKS Value, i.e. 92,99% for MA mixture and 93,39% for MB mixture to 91,44% for PA mixture. The Resilient Modulus value was also higher, i.e. 1534 MPa for MA mixture and 1451 MPa for MB mixture, compared to 1225 MPa for PA mixture, at 35 C temperature. The same condition is shown also at 45 C temperature.

In General, the asphalt mixture using ABS55 Multigrade asphalt has better performance compared to asphalt mixture using conventional asphalt (pen 6/7).
