Natural frequency of a structure is only affected by its internal property, i.e. stiffness and mass. The value of natural frequency will remain the same unless there are changes in stiffness and mass. Stiffness degradation due to damage will affect natural frequency directly. Therefore natural frequ...

Therefore natural frequency is a good indicator of any damage experienced by the structural system.

Member end-release could be taken as a representation of structural damage. Release caused degradation in stiffness. This thesis will discuss mainly about changing of natural frequency of a structure due to changing of stiffness experiencing member end-release. Each of release formation is a softening to the structure. Hopefully by simulating release distributions and comparing with natural frequency measured of an existing structure, critical points of a structure could be predicted. This investigation is needed to ensure that the maintenance is taken optimally, especially when dealing with type of structures that is not easy to detect the damage. text
