Description
Summary:This research was aimed to know the effect of kefir, yoghurt and goat milk on wistar rats as an animal model of schizophrenia. Twenty female rats were randomly divided into five groups. P1 was negative control group, P2 was positive control group or rats with schizophrenia like behaviour, P3 was rats with schizophrenia like behaviour tha received kefir treatment, P4 was rats with schizophrenia like behaviour that received yoghurt treatment and P5 was rats with schizophrenia like behaviour that received goat milk treatment. In this test, to make rats show a schizophrenia like bahaviour, rats were injected with 30 mg/kg ip ketamine daily for five consecutive days. Following the fifth injection, we evaluated the immobility time with the forced swim test (FST) and rotarod test. We also evaluated the heart rate, weight and hematological profile (erithrocytes and hemoglobin). Kefir, yoghurt and goat milk were given per-oral after the tests for 7 days. At the end of the research, all rats were sacrificed after being tested and measured. The result shows that there is an increase of hemoglobin in rats that given kefir, yogurt and goat milk and the most significantly increase is the group rats with the administration of goat milk but not in the level of erithrocytes. In the forced swim test, the group rats that given yoghurt shows a decrease the duration of immobility. The rotarod test and weight measurement did not show significant changes.
