Some mass media, not only Indonesia but also a foreign mass media were using their ability to share public opinions of each candidates. The Daily Jakarta Shimbun is one of the foreign media based in Indonesia that report and spread news about 2019 election from preparation until day of election. They formed opinion regarding the quality of each candidates for Japanese citizenships in Indonesia, This study attempted to analyze Jokowi and Prabowo based on text that used by reporter from Theo van Leeuween theory. This study approach used qualitative methods. The purpose of this study is to uncover the media tendency towards the candidates based on text and for social cognitive only explained on surface towards writer understanding. This study used articles about the end of the election campaign date in 5 March to 17 April 2019 published by The Daily Jakarta Shimbun as data. The data analyzed by critical discourse analysis of inclusion and exclusion strategy from Theo van Leeuwen which only focused on text dimension. The result of study found that most reporters are often to using passive strategy for spreading candidate‘s opinion and mostly Jokowi constructed as a positive figure while Prabowo constructed as a negative figure. In conclusion, The Daily Jakarta Shimbun is more often figured Jokowi as a good figure to the public rather than Prabowo |
