Summary:Slips of the ear are kinds of error that deal with human mind to perceive the speech in conversation. This study used Bond’s theory for classification of slips of the ear (2005). The aim of this study is to find out the types and most frequent type of slips of the ear experienced by teenagers perceiving teenagers’ speech in noisy situation. There were 42 teenagers who aged 13-15 years old as the participants of this study who were given a listening task. There were 10 utterances to be completed by all participants. They listened the recording and wrote the answer on the answer sheet. The writer used qualitative approach for analyzing the data. As the result, there were involves 334 slips of the ear experienced by teenagers. It was classified into 11 out of 14 types of slips of the ear, namely vowel misperception 8,67%, consonant misperception 26,04%, phonological well-formedness 2,37%, language varieties 0,87%, non-words 1,77%, word boundaries 19,14%, content and function words 11,37%, morphological error 1,18%, well-formed and ill-formed 19,74%, argument structure 2,37% and function 6,27%, and semantical perception. Furthermore, the most frequent type of slips of the ear is consonant misperception with the percentage of 26,04 %. From the result, it could be concluded that slips of the ear occurring in this study were experienced by teenagers who tended to misperceived words based on the use of linguistic knowledge. Noise and bilingualism might be the factors which influence the process of perceiving utterance.
