As one of the language media, code-switching can be a choice for everyone to give information to others. This study aims to reveal and find out the types and functions of code switchings that kindergarten teachers used in kindergarten classes, especially in the Indonesian language class. The research was conducted for three weeks, with the Indonesian language scheduled once a week in this school. This school was chosen because English is used as the main language during school time either during the class activities or outside the class. This research used qualitative research and field observation conducted by recording and transcribing the teacher’s utterances. The utterances were then analyzed using the theory of code-switching by Hoffman (1991). This result shows that the teacher frequently used two types of code-switching which are grammatical and contextual code-switching. For grammatical, the most frequently used by teachers are intra-sentential and tag code-switching. Contextual classification that was frequently used by teachers is situational. Second, the most frequent function shown by the teacher is repetition which was used for clarification. The main purposes of the code-switching used by the teacher are to maintain the communication smoothly and also to avoid the miscommunication and misunderstanding of the language meaning. 2020 Thesis NonPeerReviewed text en http://repository.unair.ac.id/102860/1/1.%20COVER.pdf text en http://repository.unair.ac.id/102860/2/2.%20TABLE%20OF%20CONTENTS.pdf text en http://repository.unair.ac.id/102860/3/3.%20ABSTRACT.pdf text en http://repository.unair.ac.id/102860/4/4.%20CHAPTER%20I%20-%20INTRODUCTION.pdf text en http://repository.unair.ac.id/102860/5/5.%20CHAPTER%20II%20-%20LITERATURE%20REVIEW.pdf text en http://repository.unair.ac.id/102860/6/6.%20CHAPTER%20III%20RESEARCH%20METHODS.pdf text en http://repository.unair.ac.id/102860/7/7.%20CHAPTER%20IV%20-%20DISCUSSION.pdf text en http://repository.unair.ac.id/102860/9/8.%20CHAPTER%20V%20CONCLUSION.pdf text en http://repository.unair.ac.id/102860/8/9.%20REFERENCES.pdf text en http://repository.unair.ac.id/102860/10/10.%20APPENDIX.pdf text en http://repository.unair.ac.id/102860/11/%5BSFT-031%5DForm%20Embargo%20Perpus%20Pusat%20Kenneth.pdf Kenneth Abram Junos Panungkelan, - (2020) The Use Of Code-Switching By A Kindergarten Teacher In Elyon Christian School.
