The purposed of this research was to analyze the influence of safety climate and individual characteristics on safety performance at Terminal Nilam PT Pelabuhan Indonesia III (Persero) Surabaya.
This research was an observational study with a descriptive quantitative approach and a cross-sectional study design. The method that used to measure independent variables was questionnaire, while dependent variable used observation and structured interview. The population in this study amounted to 73 people. The sample calculated using a simple random sampling technique were 64 workers.
The variables studied were independent variables covering individual characteristics and safety climate, while dependent variable is safety performance. The data collected and analysis used questionnaires and the SPSS version 21. The data analysis methods used descriptive analysis, relationship analysis, and influence analysis. The results showed that there was an influence of safety climate commitment and safety procedures & regulations on safety performance with p-values of 0.004 and 0.001.
The recommendation that given was management commitment should be coordinated from the highest management level so it could involve all members of the company and review existing safety rules and procedures so that they were easier to understand and implement by employees. |
