Summary: | Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is one of the non-communicable diseases that is leading cause of death, paralysis and financial loss. DM patients have risk of developing microvascular complications such as nephropathy. Diabetic nephropathy is a chronic disease characterized by loss of kidney function in DM patients. Aim of this study was to know the cost of illness in DM patients with complications of nephropathy from result of systematic review. This study used four online databases PubMed, EBSCOhost, ScienceDirect and Cochrane. To manage articles in these four databases used software reference manager EndNote X 9.3 and used PRSIMA flow diagrams to map the identified records, entering inclusion - exclusion criteria and exclusion reason. Four articles were analyzed in this review. Wide variations of estimated costs were observed among countries, perspective, year and sample size. Last date of study search was on 26 July 2020. The estimated total cost amount USD 828,69 per patient per year wtih societal perspective, USD 362,53 per patient per year with third party payer perspective. The most calculated cost component was direct medical costs and the highest complication cost of multiple stages of diabetic nephropathy amount USD 15.830 per patient per year with societal perspective. |
