The accuracy and precision of maxillary third molar development can be used as an indicator of chronological age in young adult especially at the age of 14 years onward. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the radiographic of maxillary third molar development in 9- to 24-year-olds among Airlangga University Dental Hospital. Methods: This study was observed the maxillary third molar development in 60 samples of Airlangga University dental hospital’s panoramic radiographs at age 9- to 24-year-old by three observers using Demirjian’s modified method. This study was observed by three observers and then taken the average. Results:
The result of the average age values in maxillary third molar developmentare: phase 0 is 9-year-old, phase A: 9.90-year-old, phase B: 11.01-year-old, phase C: 12.86-year-old, phase D: 15.90-year-old, phase E: 16.50-year-old, phases F: 16.66-year-old, phase G: 17.87-year-old, and phase H: 20.93-year-old. Conclusion: Maxillary third molar development can be used to determine the approximate age and help in forensic field |
