This research aimed to determine the effect of ketapang leaves (Terminalia catappa L.) extract on the germinal centre lymphoid depletion area of spleen on laying hens infected by Avian Pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC). This research was conducted using 20 layer hens of 20-weeks old, divided into five treatment groups which each group consisted of four replications. The treatment groups were K– (suspension of CMC Na 1% + saline solution); K+ (suspension of CMC Na 1% + APEC concentration 108 bacteria/mL as much as 2 mL/layer hen); P1, P2, and P3 [(each group was given ketapang leaves extract (Terminalia catappa L.) with arranged concentration of 5%, 10%, and 15% as much as 2,6 mL/layer hen/day + APEC concentration 108 bacteria/mL as much as 2 mL/layer hen)]. The observation and measurement were made on the germinal centre and lymphoid depletion area of the spleen. The obtained data were analyzed using the ANOVA test and Duncan post hoc. The result showed there was a significant difference (p<0.05) between each treatment group. In conclusion, this research revealed that ketapang leaves (Terminalia catappa L.) extract has antimicrobial potency showed on treatment group of P2 that could decrease the lymphoid depletion on the germinal centre of spleen effectively better than P1 and P3.
