Summary: | Pigs are livestock that are susceptible to disease transmission because of poor sanitation and poor feed. One of the problems that often occur in pigs is digestive tract disease. This disease is not only detrimental to livestock, but also can harm farmers due to decreased production. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence, types of parasites and degree of parasitic infection of the digestive tract in pigs that exist in Jember, East Java. The study was conducted in September 2020 with 100 samples of feces. The study used a flotation method by identifying the type of worm eggs or oocysts and counting the number of worm eggs per gram of feces. The kind of helminth was Fasciolopsis busky (19%), Oesophagostomum sp. (26%), Trichuris suis (26%), Ascaris suum (30%), Strongyloides sp. (21%), and protozoa were Balantidium coli (46%), Eimeria sp. (24%), Isospora sp. (39%). Data were analyzed using the chi square test and the prevalence obtained was 90% (90/100) and there was no significance relationship between the prevalence with the sex and age of pigs. In the calculation of worm eggs per gram of feces obtained the number of worms that infect the eggs ranges 0-500 EPG, so mean is mild degree of infection. |
