An individual with antisocial behavior usually does not interact much with other people. The antisocial behavior in the novel entitled Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine portrays Eleanor Oliphant, the main character of the story. Eleanor’s behavioral traits presented alongside the story indicates that her behavior tends to be antisocial. By using New Criticism theory, the theme of the novel can be found out. This theory deals with how the formal elements in fiction can establish the theme. The formal elements which are used in the analysis are plot, characterization, point of view, and irony. Then, the theme is built by analyzing the relationship among those formal elements through close reading method. In order to analyze the issue on the novel, descriptive analytic method was applied in this study.
