Summary: | This study aims to analyze the application of translation techniques in translating Indonesian articles of Indonesian Ministry of State Secretariat into English. In this study, researcher applied a qualitative approach to analyze 18 articles produced by Indonesian Ministry of State Secretariat, 9 articles in Bahasa Indonesia and 9 articles in English, by using Molina and Albir's (2002) theory of translation techniques. The findings are 137 techniques mapped from 121 data gathered. From the nine pairs of articles published by Indonesian Ministry of State Secretariat, the translator applies 11 types of translation techniques, namely a) adaptation (8,0%), b) literal translation (24,8%), c) established equivalent (8,8%), d) amplification (0,7%), e) borrowing (15,3%), f) compensation (0,7%), g) reduction (4,4%), h) generalization (0,7%), i) linguistic amplification (6,6%), (j) linguistic compression (2,2%), and (k) calque (27,7%). However, the result also shows that the calque translation technique is the most dominant technique used to translate articles written by Indonesian Ministry of State Secretariat’s translator. This technique uses consistently to translate the name of the ministries. |
