Summary: | This study aims to determine the level of efficiency and factors that affect efficiency of sharia and conventional general insurance in Indonesia during the 2015-2019 period. The method used in measuring the level of efficiency is Data Envelopment Analysis with the assumption of an input-oriented Variable Return to Scale and tobit regression to determine the factors that affect efficiency. The sample used is 12 sharia general insurance and 15 conventional general insurance in Indonesia. The input variables used are total capital, total company expenses and total insurance expenses, while the output variables used are total company income and total insurance income. Technical efficiency score on DEA becomes the dependent variable in the two stage of tobit regression with independent variables consisting of Return on assets, leverage and age. The results of this study indicate that the overall average efficiency value of sharia general insurance is higher than that of conventional general insurance during the observation period. This indicates that sharia general insurance is relatively able to manage inputs more optimally and turn them into maximum output results. The return on assets and age variables in conventional general insurance have a significant effect on the level of efficiency, while the leverage variable has no significant effect, while in sharia general insurance only the return on assets variables have a significant effect on the efficiency level, while the leverage and age variables have no significant effect. |
