This study examines child abuse happening to the life of the main characters in Judy Westwater‟s Street Kid. Street Kid tells the story of young girls who are abused by her father and step-mother. This study discusses anxiety of traumatic experience. Then, the defense mechanism done by Judith, the main character, which are associated with her childhood trauma. Freudian psychoanalysis theory will be used as the main theory, especially the discussion of psychological development, anxiety of child abuse experience, and defense mechanism. Based on Freudian psychoanalysis, this research relies on two basic question how traumatic events is experienced by the main character and how the main character does her defense mechanism to overcome her traumatic experience. This research is a qualitative research where the data is taken from the novel Street Kid, journals, and other resources which are appropriate in conducting the analysis. This study finds that Judith‟s defense mechanism are associated with her childhood traumatic experience such as the physical abuse treatments by her father and step-mother and the sexual abuse by stranger. Her trauma leads to several anxieties in her life, and to leads her anxieties, she does defense mechanism, namely repression and sublimation.
