Summary: | This study was conducted to investigate the construction of gender role concept in the two books of “Dongeng Nusantara” by the use of theory of Critical Discourse Analysis by Fairclough (1989). This study aimed at examining how the concept of gender role was constructed in the folklore stories in Indonesia. The document was two books of “Dongeng Nusantara” and the data were six folklore stories. Those stories are Legenda Danau Toba, Terjadinya Negeri Jambi, Roro Jonggrang, Jaka Tarub, Nyi Roro Kidul, Klenting Kuning. The writer did three steps proposed by Fairclough (1989) conducting this study. The first step was description by looking at certain words, vocabulary and grammar as part of linguistic features. The next step was making interpretation based on the texts. The last was explanation associated with socio – cultural context. The result revealed that the construction of gender role was found in these folklores. Those gender role were divided into three sectors: domestic sector, public sector, and social sector. |
