| Summary: | The controversy on the legalization of the Bill of Pornography is concerned with the concept of pornography itself. Different understanding among people toward the concept of pornography makes people take side whether they are supporting or opposing the bill. This study intends to reveal the meaning construction in the news articles in order to see the process in the meaning making of the concept of pornography. The writer uses Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis as the methodological framework. The corpus of this study is news articles about the phenomenon of pornography in RUU APP news reported in Kompas.
Based on the ten guideline questions proposed by Fairclough, the study found that Kompas applied several strategies in constructing the pornography concept in the news report, for instance, words that are ideologically contested, overwording,
expressive values of the vocabulary, metaphor, and nominalizations. From the six news report that analyzed, the construction on the pornography concept deal with the negotiation process from the exploitation on women’s body to the distribution of pornography materials in the media. |
